Bowman wins $10 million engineering contract in Colorado

Infrastructure engineering firm Bowman Consulting Group has won a $10 million consulting contract from the public works department of Boulder County, Colorado.

The contract, which will run for 5 years, gives Boulder County officials access to on-demand infrastructure consulting services from Bowman.

The firm will provide assistance with electrical engineering projects in the county. Bowman’s work will also encompass plumbing infrastructure as well as building systems, an industry term used to describe key architectural elements of a facility such as its electrical wiring.

Bowman is no stranger to working with public sector customers like Boulder County. The Nasdaq-traded engineering firm has designed highways, parks, water treatment plants and other public works for government clients.

Bowman also boasts a strong track record in Boulder County. The firm has been providing engineering services to the county since 2015.

Local know-how

Boulder County, which is home to a part of the Rocky Mountains, has uneven terrain that can be a major factor in engineering projects.

Another factor that engineers must take into account is the City of Boulder Energy Conservation Code. The code, which was implemented in 2020, specifies a series of sustainability requirements that construction projects must meet.

For engineering firms, having familiarity with the unique technical and regulatory parameters that influence construction projects in a given area can be a valuable competitive advantage. Bowman’s deal with Boulder County is a valuable example of this rule.

Scale is another important factor for engineering firms, and consulting firms in general, when working with big clients like local governments.

Big clients often demand not one but a range of different services as part of a project. Delivering those services often requires a significant amount of personnel, which means a consulting firm with a large number of employees in the client’s area can find itself with an advantage over smaller competitors.

Bowman has 3 offices in Colorado, including one in the state capital of Denver. The firm stated that personnel from all 3 of its Colorado offices will support the new $10 million contract with Boulder County.

“As a leading, local firm, we are excited to continue to provide our services to Boulder County,” said Bowman principal Peter D’Antonio. “We have a long-established collaboration with the county and a true passion for the projects that we have worked on. As our services expand, we feel confident that we will serve Boulder County’s needs well into the future.”
