Aecom grows UK presence with new Manchester area office

This article was written by a human. Here’s how to tell.

Engineering services giant Aecom has inaugurated a new office in the Manchester suburb of Salford to grow its local presence.

Aecom, a member of the Fortune 500, has more than 50,000 employees who design everything from mass transit infrastructure to skyscrapers for clients. The Dallas-headquartered company has long maintained business operations in the U.K.

Aecom says that it currently employs about 250 staff in the Manchester metropolitan area. Its new Salford office will more than double that number to about 580 employees.

The company’s decision to set up a new regional hub is driven by multiple factors.

One is that Aecom has several major clients in the Manchester area including the University of Salford, several local government organizations and a major hospital operator. Bolstering its local headcount will enable the firm to better support those clients, which might help it land new contracts down the line.

The other major factor to consider is that Manchester and the surrounding region constitute the second largest metropolitan economy in the U.K. behind in London. In other words, there are plenty of opportunities for Aecom to win new clients, a task that will become simpler after it doubles its local workforce.

Aecom will offer several kinds of consulting services to clients in the Manchester area. The firm plans to design buildings and transportation infrastructure, as well as lend organizations a hand with environmental initiatives.

Aecom’s Manchester office is located in a 20,000-square-foot section of an office building called 100 Embankment. One of the main highlights is a terrace and viewing deck can accommodate almost 250 people, which Aecom executives noted will be useful for client events.

“This has been a hugely exciting move for AECOM and there is a palpable buzz in the office as staff enjoy the workplace interior, its location and views over the city,” commented AECOM executive Colin Wood.
