EY buys Tallan to strengthen its Microsoft consulting practice

Big Four member EY is expanding its massive Microsoft consulting practice by acquiring a competitor called Tallan.

Tallan is headquartered in Hartford, Connecticut and has 96 employees listed on its LinkedIn profile at the time of writing. The firm works with clients in the manufacturing, consumer packaged goods and financial services sectors, as well as other verticals.

Companies hire Tallan when they need a hand with implementing one of Microsoft’s enterprise software products. Microsoft products can be difficult to deploy even for the most seasoned of in-house IT teams, which is why consultancies like Tallan are often brought onboard to assist with the rollout process.

One of Tallan’s main focus areas is analytics. The consultancy can work with a firm to set up a Microsoft-powered analytics stack that will provide transparency into key business questions.

In one client engagement, Tallan worked with a utility to develop a cloud  dashboard for tracking water meters. The dashboard picks up data points that suggest a meter may be malfunctioning.

“We see great need among our clients for application modernization and data analytics solutions to meet their digital transformation ambitions,” noted Tallan boss Craig Branning. “Joining the EY team is an amazing opportunity to expand the services we offer our clients on the Microsoft technology stack.”

Tallan partners closely with clients on IT projects. The firm describes its approach in terms of working as “an extension” of a company’s internal tech and business teams.

The acquisition of Tallan will enable EY to expand its already massive Microsoft consulting practice. The practice is one of the biggest in the industry.

To date, EY professionals have completed more than 16,000 consulting projects involving Microsoft technologies. The Big Four consultancy helps companies adopt Microsoft applications, as well as move their existing applications to the technology giant’s cloud computing platform.

EY says that its Microsoft practice has worked on projects for more than 4,000 clients worldwide. The best practices and methodologies Tallan is bringing to the table through the acquisition will enable EY to more effectively support that client base.
