Sweco acquires Dutch engineering consultancy Valstar Simonis

Sweco this week announced that it has acquired Valstar Simonis, a Dutch building consultancy with about 60 employees and €7.7 million in annual revenue.

The deal’s financial terms were not disclosed. Sweco says that the acquisition closed on July 5.

Valstar Simonis takes on about 170 consulting projects every year. One of its main focus areas is helping organizations renovate large buildings, such as conference centers, to improve the visitor experience. Valstar Simonis can draw up plans for new meeting spaces, make existing rooms more user-friendly and figure out ways to increase the amount of greenery on display.

The firm’s engineers also do outdoors work. In some projects, Valstar Simonis helps clients install solar panels on top of their facilities. In others, the firm’s consultants spruce up the gardens around a building to create a better experience for visitors.

“Market demand for sustainable and future-proofed solutions in the built environment is increasing in pace with Europe’s need to accelerate the green transition of urban areas,” remarked Sweco CEO Åsa Bergman.

The acquisition expands Sweco’s already significant market presence in the Netherlands. The firm, Europe’s largest engineering and architecture consultancy, already employs more than 2,200 professionals in the country. Dutch customers accounted for €244 million of the €2.53 billion in revenue Sweco posted last year.
