TCS grows its Salesforce practice with $700M Coastal Cloud deal

Tata Consultancy Services has signed a $700 million deal to buy Coastal Cloud, a Florida-based IT service provider.
TCS is one of the world’s largest technology consultancies. The Mumbai-based firm ended its most recent fiscal year with sales of more than $30 billion. Coastal Cloud is a smaller market player with about 400 employees, most of whom are joining TCS as part of the transaction.
Coastal Cloud’s main focus is helping companies set up and operate Salesforce deployments. It works across more than a half dozen of the cloud giant’s services. The list includes Salesforce’s CRM platform and Salesforce CPQ, which firms use to put together quotes for business-to-business transactions. Coastal Cloud is also active in the business-to-consumer segment. It helps retailers build e-commerce websites using the Salesforce Commerce Cloud.
Beyond the Salesforce ecosystem, the consultancy takes on Snowflake projects. It can work with a company to boost query performance and lower infrastructure costs. Additionally, Coastal Cloud has a marketing practice that assists clients with tasks such as creating advertising campaigns.
TCS says that the acquisition places it among the world’s top five Salesforce consultancies. In its announcement of the transaction, the firm stated that it plans to make more buyouts to grow its market presence. The M&A push is set to focus on not only the cloud software market but also other major IT verticals such as cybersecurity and AI.
