CGI broadens its technology services partnership with Posti

Consulting giant CGI will help Finland’s postal service process customer correspondence in a more efficient manner.

Helsinki-headquartered Posti Group operates more than 1,000 locations throughout the Nordics. Its partnership with CGI dates back to 2016, when the companies teamed up to build an employee application powered by Apple’s iBeacon technology. The software cut post office wait times by notifying staffers when a customer came through the door to pick up an item. In 2024, Posti and CGI expanded their relationship with a ten-year technology services deal. The companies are now further broadening the collaboration.

CGI says that the first focus of the expanded partnership will be to improve delivery reliability. We reached out to the firm for more information. Kia Yliperttula, CGI’s director of communications and employer branding in Finland, told Boardroom Insight that the goal will be “ensuring that important communications reach recipients through the right channel, at the right time, and in a consistent manner.”

Posti not only delivers physical mail but also processes digital messages via an app called OmnaPosti. Those messages include, among others, invoices that merchants issue in connection with package deliveries. CGI says that it will help Posti launch new offerings “built around” OmnaPosti.

“The expanded partnership combines CGI’s digital messaging capabilities with Posti’s distribution network and digital channels, enabling organizations to manage communications through a more integrated model,” Yliperttula said. “This improves visibility, operational consistency and monitoring across the communications process.”

The integrated model the companies plan to implement is also expected to provide a fourth benefit: better business decisions. More specifically, CGI says that the goal is to improve cost predictability. That’s a term for a company’s ability to forecast future expenses and adapt its business plans accordingly.

“Cost predictability refers to giving organizations greater transparency into communication volumes, channel usage and associated costs,” Yliperttula explained. “By managing digital and physical communications within a unified framework, organizations can better forecast expenses, optimize channel selection and maintain service quality while improving customer reach and engagement.”

Posti is not the only postal service that has hired CGI to upgrade its IT infrastructure. The consulting giant also counts Sweden’s PostaNord as a customer. Additionally, it works with dozens of companies in the broader logistics sector.

The technology services market is one of three segments where CGI competes. It also helps clients with backoffice business tasks such as accounting and provides pre-packaged software for the financial sector. The company closed its most recent fiscal year with sales of CA$15.91 billion, an 8.4% increase from 2024.
