Stax promotes insider Palash Misra to managing director

Business strategy consultancy Stax has elevated long-time executive Palash Misra to the role of managing director.

“I congratulate Palash on this hard-earned achievement and well-deserved recognition which is consistent with our firm values,” commented Stax president Jayson Traxle. “At Stax, we are mindful of the importance of organic growth and the long-term career development of our teams, especially at the manager and director roles.”

New York-headquartered Stax helps funds and other financial firms realize a return on their investments. One of the consultancy’s main specialties is assisting private equity firms with value creation.

Private equity firms make money by buying companies and selling them for a higher price a few years down the road. To fetch that higher price, a private equity firm must increase the value of the companies it acquires, which is done through the so-called value creation process.

This process entails finding ways to increase a firm’s revenue and profitability. A private equity firm can streamline a portfolio company’s business operations by installing new software systems, or increase the company’s revenue through business model changes.

That’s the point where Stax comes into the picture. Private equity firms hire Stax to develop and implement value creation methods as well as assist with other tasks, such as performing due diligence on a potential acquisition target to ensure everything is in order.

Newly appointed managing director Palash Misra is one of the most senior members of Stax’s private equity advisory team. He has worked on deals in multiple markets including the software, digital media, marketing and financial technology industries, to name a few areas.

Misra brings more than 15 years of strategy consulting experience to the managing director role. He has spent many of those years at Stax.

Misra first joined Stax in 1999, when the first internet companies began spreading their wings. He worked at the firm’s mergers and acquisitions practice for a while before taking the top business development role at Monster Global, one of the world’s leading job site operators.

Misra returned to Stax in 2013. Since then, he has “been instrumental in terms of firm growth,” remarked senior managing director Paul Edwards.
