Simon-Kucher appoints former BCG executive David Wilhelm as partner
German management consulting firm Simon-Kucher has recruited David Wilhelm to its healthcare and life sciences practice.
The executive will work as a partner at the company’s Zurich office. Wilhelm previously held the same title at BCG X, the technology advisory arm of Boston Consulting Group.
Simon-Kucher is best known for its work on product pricing projects. The firm helps large companies determine how much they should ask for their merchandise. Such projects take into factors such as market demand and competitor moves. For example, a brick-and-mortar retailer might find it useful to launch a sale when e-commerce rivals lower their prices.
Over the years, Simon-Kucher has expanded into many other parts of the consulting market. It helps clients with acquisition due diligence and IT projects such as data visualization development. Its healthcare and life sciences practice, the business unit that David Wilhelm has joined, likewise has a strong technology focus.
Wilhelm will lead the practice’s AI team. According to Simon-Kucher, the team helps customers identify the high-value internal processes that they should automate first. After developing a proof of concept, the consultancy advises clients on how to scale the project across their organization. That’s often more complicated than the initial prototyping phase. One particularly significant source of complexity is that large healthcare companies often have business units in multiple markets. AI implementations must often be adapted to those markets’ regulatory frameworks, which can involve a significant amount of work.
Before BCG X, Wilhelm spent several years at a German venture capital firm. He earlier held roles at major brands such as Adidas and Volkswagen. That kind of cross-sector experience is valued by large management consulting such as Simon-Kucher because they work with clients in multiple industries.
