EY US grows no-code consulting business with Unqork alliance

EY’s U.S. member firm is partnering with Unqork to assist clients with the development of no-code applications.

No-code application development is the industry term for building software using drag and drop tools. Such tools, which have become quite sophisticated in recent years, allow business users to write programs without assistance from IT staff.

One of the largest players in this market is Unqork. The New York-headquartered company has raised more than $350 million from its venture capital backers and offers a no-code application development platform that is used by multiple Fortune 500 companies.

Unqork’s platform allows customers to put together a user interface on a virtual canvas from ready-to-use components. Those components can be added to the interface through a drag and drop workflow.

Once their application’s interface is done, users can create the backend business logic. That’s the part of a program responsible for turning clicks and form submissions in the application interface into actions.

Because developing business logic is a fairly complicated task, Unqork offers templates for common program functions. The company also provides a secure cloud environment on which customers can deploy their low-code applications.

EY’s role in its new partnership with Unqork will be to provide implementation assistance to joint customers.

When a big company buys Unqork’s software, it can turn to EY for “technology strategy” assistance. That means the firm can help a company answer big-picture questions like what tasks its low-code applications should perform.

EY will also offer assistance with the more hands-on aspects of Unqork projects. The firm’s consultants will work with customers to test their low-code applications and ensure everything works as developers intended.

Besides consulting services, the EY-Unqork alliance will also bring accelerators to the table for clients.

In the consulting world, an accelerator is a collection of technology tools and methods that have been field-tested across multiple client projects. For a company embarking on a new Unqork application project, access to lessons from similar initiatives launched by other companies can increase the chance of success.

“Having an established alliance with Unqork strengthens the ability of EY US to help clients resolve challenges in application building, digitalization and operational efficiency,” commented Lars Tandrup, the Unqork alliance leader at EY US.

It’s worth pointing out that Unqork has an especially big presence in the financial services and insurance sectors. Those are already lucrative markets for EY, and its partnership with Unqork is poised to open even more revenue growth avenues.
