Deloitte launches sustainability accelerators for Workiva

Deloitte is expanding its partnership with tech vendor Workiva by rolling out a set of new accelerators for the latter company’s software platform.

Workiva is not exactly a household name. However, the NYSE-traded software vendor plays an important role in the business world.

Thousands of companies rely on Workiva to generate financial reports such as quarterly earnings statements. The vendor’s software is also used to generate sustainability reports, which is the use case that Deloitte is focusing on as part of the new partnership.

Configuring a complex software product like Workiva requires specialized technical expertise. Because many companies don’t have that expertise in-house, or at least not enough of it for every IT project, they hire consultancies like Deloitte to assist them.

Deloitte is now introducing a set of accelerators to speed up Workiva installation projects. An accelerator is a bundle of software and consulting services focused on speeding up a technical task, in this case customizing Workiva’s software for a company’s requirements.

The first accelerator provides a template for creating sustainability reports. According to Deloitte, it makes it possible to create reports that consolidate different data points about a company’s sustainability initiatives in one dashboard.

A second new accelerator focuses on helping companies track Scope 3 emissions. Those are emissions that are generated indirectly by a company’s activities, for example when employees book a taxi to travel to a client site.

The last two accelerators Deloitte is rolling out are meant to help companies enhance their sustainability-focused business processes. In particular, the accelerators are designed to enhance the controls that companies use to ensure their business practices align with sustainability goals.

“Our sustainability, climate and equity practice is strongly positioned to help our clients enhance their use of the Workiva platform to put what is good and equitable for people and the planet at the core of business decisions,” remarked Deloitte executive Chris Ruggeri.

The new solutions join a number of existing accelerators that Deloitte already offers for Workiva customers. Those solutions likewise focus on helping companies manage their sustainability initiatives using Workiva’s software.
