PwC Ireland opens cyber services center in Cork

This article was written by a human. Here’s how to tell.

PwC Ireland has inaugurated a new cyber services center in Cork that will assist clients with cybersecurity and regulatory compliance tasks.

The Cyber Managed Services Centre, as the hub is called, is located at One Albert Quay, a recently constructed seven-story office building in the city center. The facility houses PwC’s local branch location.

The Big Four firm said that one of the new hub’s focus areas will be helping clients address cybersecurity risks, particularly those affecting their suppliers. PwC says that the Cyber Managed Services Centre will work with companies to evaluate the cybersecurity posture of their suppliers and minimize any issues that may come up. The firm also plans to provide related services including breach management assistance.

The Cyber Managed Services Centre’s other core focus area will be helping organizations comply with privacy regulations. Such regulations, notably the EU’s GDPR, mandate that companies keep an inventory of what consumer data they store. There are also other requirements: one example is the stipulation that consumers who ask what information a firm has collected about them must be given a detailed overview. PwC says its new cyber services team will be able to help clients with such tasks.

In a prepared statement, PwC Ireland managing partner Enda McDonagh commented that “PwC’s Cyber Managed Services Centre has been established in direct response to client demand. its strategic location in Cork leverages exceptional local talent and tech-powered solutions to deliver for our clients locally, nationally and indeed internationally.”

The fact that many major tech firms maintain offices in Cork likely also factored into PwC’s decision to bring its cyber services hub to the city. Apple, Google and IBM are a few of the companies that have a local presence. For consultancies, particularly large ones, having staffers in close physical proximity to clients’ offices is often a major priority from a go-to-market standpoint.
