Kyndryl, one of the world’s largest IT service providers, has renewed its long-term SAP software maintenance deal with Ernst & Young US.

Kyndryl’s relationship with the Big Four firm dates back to the days it was still a subsidiary of IBM. It has managed EY’s SAP environment over the past decade or so, a relationship that the contract renewal will extend for an unspecified time period. That time period will likely be measured in years if it follows the general pattern of large software services deals.

The contract also has a few other elements. Kyndryl said it will help EY figure out ways of modernizing its SAP deployment, but didn’t specify exactly how. The deal is a high-profile marketing win for Kyndryl because EY is not only one of the world’s largest accounting firms, but also has its own SAP services practice. The fact EY chose to entrust its SAP environment to Kyndryl suggests the latter company brought a very solid skill set to the table.

EY partner Tim Monson commented in a prepared statement that “the collaboration with Kyndryl is critical to the overall business success of EY. The EY SAP environment is a mix of both on-premises and cloud solutions, and Kyndryl plays a key role in supporting EY global financial processing on SAP around the globe. Kyndryl’s commitment to a true collaboration is what makes the relationship work and is truly special.”

Cybersecurity will be another priority of the firms’ continued work together. Specifically, Kyndryl will help EY deploy new endpoint security tools, which are software products used to protect devices such as employee workstations. The firms didn’t specify exactly what cybersecurity software they will be using.
