Grant Thornton Australia names Claire Scott as financial services lead

Grant Thornton’s Australian affiliate has appointed Claire Scott, a long-time company insider, to the helm of its financial services practice.
Grant Thornton is one of the world’s largest accounting networks with $8 billion in annual revenue and 70,000-plus employees. Its Australian affiliate’s financial services practice helps local banks audit their books. The business unit also works with other financial institutions such as fintech startups and investment funds.
Claire Scott is taking over the reins at the unit following a 17-year accounting career. According to Grant Thornton, she spent a sizable portion of that time carrying out audits for organizations in the financial services sector. Her experience also spans other types of consulting engagements, most notably due diligence initiatives. Those are projects in which a company seeking to buy another business checks that the acquisition target’s books and business operations meet expectations.
Currently, Scott is a partner at Grant Thornton’s audit and assurance practice. She leads the firm’s work with mutual ADIs, a regulatory category that includes financial institutions such as credit unions and mutual banks, which are banks owned by their customers. The executive will take over Grant Thornton’s financial services practice on January 1.
“Claire’s extensive financial services experience, commitment to client success, and expertise in audit and regulatory standards make her the ideal leader to guide our clients through these times of significant change,” said Fraser McNaughton, the chief marketing officer and head of industry at Grant Thornton Australia.
