EY UK appoints John Divers to due diligence leadership post

Ernst & Young’s U.K. member firm has appointed partner John Divers to lead its transaction due diligence practice in the North of England.
EY’s due diligence professionals help companies make sure everything goes smoothly when they’re buying another business. The Big Four member can, for instance, check that the financial projections of the business being bought are in order. Due diligence initiatives can also uncover other issues at a company such as inadequate cybersecurity processes.
These types of factors directly influence the price at which a corporate acquisition closes. In some cases, they can also influence whether the bidder decides to go ahead with a transaction.
Divers joined EY UK in 2019 following a nearly two-decade career at rival Big Four member Deloitte. He initially worked at EY UK’s Edinburgh office. In his new role, he will lead a team of due diligence professionals at the firm’s Manchester office.
The team works on several kinds of transactions for clients. Besides helping companies acquire other businesses, EY UK can also help a firm sell a subsidiary that no longer aligns with its business goals. The team’s focus also extends beyond acquisitions to other types of deals such as growth investments.
EY UK stated that Divers plans to grow the Manchester due diligence team and expand its market presence in the North of England. The executive added in prepared remarks that “Manchester and the North of England are home to vibrant M&A markets and communities, and we’re committed to supporting businesses throughout the region right across the M&A life cycle.”
