Deloitte builds AI-powered analytics platform for finance teams

The latest addition to Deloitte’s prepackaged software portfolio is AI Advantage for CFOs, a new analytics platform that runs on AWS.
The application is designed to help finance teams analyze business data more efficiently. Deloitte says that AI Advantage for CFOs can process not only structured financial data but also multimodal files, or files that contain photos and audio. The latter capability is useful for tasks such as analyzing earnings calls and extracting purchase details from receipt scans.
Deloitte detailed that one early customer, Volkswagen, is using the software to find ways of boosting profitability.
Under the hood, AI Advantage for CFOs runs on a large language model called Claude 3.7 Sonnet. The algorithm was released in February by Anthropic, a machine learning startup founded by former OpenAI staffers. Deloitte’s deployment of Claude 3.7 Sonnet is hosted in AWS’ Amazon Bedrock service, which provides a cloud environment for running LLMs.
Deloitte says its new analytics platform also uses two Bedrock features called Data Automation and Knowledge Bases.
The former capability allows companies to organize data from different sources into a single repository. The Knowledge Bases feature, in turn, makes that data available to LLMs. Deloitte elaborated that AI Advantage for CFOs also uses AI agents to automate some analytics tasks.
“Our regional reach and deep industry experience, coupled with the robust AI capabilities of AWS and Anthropic, create a powerful synergy,” commented Deloitte executive Nishita Henry.
In conjunction with the launch of AI Advantage for CFOs, the Big Four member will set up a new center of excellence named after the platform. Staffers at the hub will help finance executives find ways of using machine learning to make their teams more productive. Deloitte sees opportunities to streamline tasks such as financial planning and sales forecasting.
Previously, the accounting giant launched a generative AI practice in 2023. Like the new AI Advantage for CFOs center of excellence, that business unit helps companies apply machine learning in their internal processes, but its focus is not limited to accounting. Staffers at the generative AI practice work with clients to harness AI for tasks such as optimizing marketing campaigns and planning equipment maintenance schedules.
