Crowe’s US member firm appoints long-time insider to lead AI group

This article was written by a human. Here’s how to tell.

Crowe LLP, Crowe’s U.S. member firm, has appointed a long-time executive to the helm of its AI consulting group.

Doug Schrock is taking up the role of AI managing principal following a three-decade career at the accounting firm.

Crowe, Crow LLP’s parent organization, is the world’s eighth largest professional services network by revenue. Besides helping corporate clients with accounting tasks, the firm also takes on IT modernization projects. Management consulting services is likewise a focus area for Crowe: its staffers advise leadership teams on business initiatives such as acquisitions.

The AI consulting group that Doug Schrock now leads is called the Artificial Intelligence Center of Excellence. According to Crowe LLP, the executive will oversee a major business expansion initiative that is expected to double the group’s headcount. The firm didn’t specify which specific teams will add new staffers.

Crowe LLP’s AI consulting group comprises three units. The first works with clients to find ways of applying AI software to their business operations and building proof-of-concept implementations. The second unit, which is aptly called AI Engineering, turns those proof-of-concept projects into production deployments. Lastly, the third unit in Crowe’s AI consulting group helps sort out the auxiliary details involved in rolling out a machine learning application. One of its specialties is training a client organization’s employees in using new AI software.

As the head of the AI consulting group, Schrock will lead not only client-facing machine learning projects work but also Crowe LLP’s efforts to implement the technology internally. Additionally, he will manage the firm’s relationships with key technology vendors.

Before becoming Crowe LLP’s top AI executive, Schrock headed its IT advisory practice. This latter unit helps clients with tasks such as moving legacy applications to the cloud. Notably, the IT advisory practice also advises companies on AI projects, which means Schrock is no stranger to the technology.
