CGI’s business consulting unit gets a marketing boost from IDC

CGI, the Canadian IT services giant, has landed a spot in IDC’s annual ranking of business consulting providers.
IDC is one of the world’s most influential research firms. Its reports are used by CIOs and other senior executives to make multimillion buying decisions in, among other areas, the consulting market. As a result, recognition from IDC can translate into tangible revenue gains for a professional services firm.
The research firm’s new ranking of business consulting providers was published under the title “MarketScape: Worldwide Business Consulting Services 2024 Vendor Assessment”. CGI was named as a Major Player by IDC’s analysts. That’s a notable win for the Canadian company because it’s primarily known as a provider of IT services. Its business consulting arm, which has considerably less mindshare among senior executives, could receive a valuable marketing boost from IDC’s acknowledgement.
“Several times during this evaluation CGI’s clients described them as pragmatic, loyal, and entrepreneurial partners,” IDC executive Bill Latshaw noted in prepared remarks.
CGI’s business consulting arm helps client organizations find ways of improving their business models. The unit also assists with mergers and acquisitions, as well as sustainability initiatives designed to reduce supply chain emissions. Organizations looking to make their workers more productive can likewise turn to CGI for help with planning employee engagement programs.
In their report, IDC’s analysts provided several reasons for their decision to give CGI the Major Player destination. One was that the firm’s business consultants “take feedback well.” IDC also pointed out that CGI staffers don’t shy away from making use of technologies such as AI to streamline client projects, which is not surprising given the company’s strong IT focus.
