Accenture moves into the LLM customization services market

This article was written by a human. Here’s how to tell.

Accenture has launched a new consulting-plus-software offering to help corporate clients implement large language models.

The offering has multiple components.

The first element is a piece of software that Accenture has developed to compare how well different LLMs perform the same task. The software measures the accuracy with which each evaluated LLM carries out a task, the associated costs and other metrics. Based on these data points, a company can more easily decide which of the LLMs at its disposal is most suitable for a given software project.

“Companies that want to harness the power of generative AI will need an array of specialized models,” said Karthik Narain, the group chief executive of Accenture’s technology consulting business. “Our switchboard is designed to enable companies to do this at scale while managing costs and carbon footprint, aligning the right models to the business context.”

If none of the ready-made language models out there tick all the boxes, a company can hire Accenture to build it a customized AI. More specifically, Accenture professionals can customize existing LLMs using a company’s proprietary dataset to increase their accuracy and cost-efficiency.

Accenture’s new LLM service also provides access to employee training courses. The consulting giant can teach a company’s IT professionals how to manage LLMs and provide them with certifications demonstrating they thoroughly learned the topic.

Accenture’s LLM service marks its entry into what is poised to become a massive market. Practically every large organization is adopting generative AI in one form or another, which is driving significant demand for AI-related consulting and training services.

Case in point, Accenture says its LLM service is already used by “one of the largest entertainment companies” to expedite internal AI projects. The unnamed company in question is leveraging Accenture’s LLM comparison software to help it find language models suitable for internal IT projects.

Accenture’s AI consulting services will draw on a growing pool of intellectual property the firm has developed to support its growth efforts in this market. The firm claims it has racked up more than 1,450 pending and issued patents related to generative AI.
