Accenture has acquired IQT Group, an Italian consultancy that helps companies such as utilities and internet providers plan infrastructure projects.
The dollar value of the deal was not disclosed.
IQT Group is headquartered in Rovigo, a small city near Venice, and has more than 450 employees. Its main specialty is designing infrastructure for transmitting electricity, water and internet traffic. The firm can, for example, help a utility’s in-house engineers figure out the best way to upgrade a set of power lines in need of replacement.
During the initial phase of a construction project, IQT Group assists clients with feasibility studies. Those are the technical reviews that a company performs to determine if a proposed engineering initiative is practical to carry out. Once a project is given the go-ahead, IQT Group can help its clients secure the necessary regulatory permits.
The consultancy plays a role in subsequent project phases as well. It can draw up blueprints and oversee construction to ensure it’s carried out in an efficient manner. For clients in the telecommunications sector, IQT Group offers to not only plan network infrastructure but also manage it.
Besides infrastructure engineering contracts, the firm also takes on smaller projects. It can help clients find ways of lowering a building’s power usage to reduce its environmental footprint and operating costs.
Accenture will fold IQT into its Industry X group, which provides engineering consulting services. The business unit is also active in a number of other areas. It works with manufacturers to modernize their production lines by adding in robotic arms and other automation equipment. Additionally, Industry X helps companies such as electronics suppliers design new technology products.
