Accenture buys Award Solutions to bolster its IT training business
This article was written by a human. Here’s how to tell.
Accenture has acquired Award Solutions, a Texas-based consultancy that helps train internet providers’ employees in using new technologies such as AI.
The firms did not divulge the deal’s financial terms.
Alongside its Texas headquarters, Award Solutions maintains offices in three U.S. states and India. Its 29 employees help telecommunications professionals familiarize themselves with the new technologies being adopted by their employers. Those technologies are headlined by the 5G networking standard.
Besides being faster, 5G also diverges from earlier broadband implementations in other ways. Cell towers that use the standard have a shorter range than their predecessors because they send data over different frequencies. That limitation influences several aspects of telecommunications professionals’ work, such as how they plan the placement of 5G cell towers in cities.
Compared with earlier networking standards, there are also technical differences at the software level. Many types of 5G equipment support a feature called network slicing, which allows a carrier to split its infrastructure into multiple “virtual networks”. Each such network can be configured to provide a different mix of bandwidth and latency.
Helping telecommunications professionals adapt to the changes brought by 5G is not Award Solutions’ sole focus area. The company also helps clients familiarize themselves with other technologies such as network virtualization, a technique for optimizing carrier infrastructure, and AI. Like other large enterprises, internet providers are investing heavily in AI to make their business operations more efficient.
Award Solutions delivers training via both in-person and virtual courses. The company says that it can customize its learning content based on clients’ roles at the carrier where they work. Notably, Award Solutions also tailors its courses to the technical nuances of each internet provider.
Accenture will fold Award Solutions into its LearnVantage business, which provides employee training services to enterprises.
