Slalom opens New Zealand office in latest market expansion

Slalom is putting another pin on its business expansion map by opening an office in New Zealand to support local clients.

The office, which will be located in the city of Auckland, joins the more than 40 regional hubs that Slalom operates worldwide. The 13,000-plus employees who work at those offices assist the consultancy’s clients with a variety of IT and business strategy projects.

Although Slalom is only now setting up a physical presence in New Zealand, it already has a substantial local customer base. The company’s clients include Air New Zealand and Fidelity Life, one of the largest insurers in the region.

Slalom assists large companies with complex technology projects. The company can help a company set up a new cloud computing environment, modernize its CRM or revamp the UI of a key internal application used by executives to make important decisions.

Slalom is also among the limited number of IT consultancies that dabble in business consulting. The firm works with executive to plan big moves like changing a subsidiary’s  business model or finding the optimal way to integrate a newly acquired company into the organizational structure.

“Slalom New Zealand sets itself apart from competitors because our consultants are local, but our capabilities are global and we can help New Zealand customers expand their reach around the world,” commented Michael Shimota, Slalom’s top exec in Australia and New Zealand. “We offer clients end to end services, from strategic consulting to building amazing products, so they can connect more deeply and best serve their customers.”

Slalom’s new New Zealand hub is its fourth it has opened in the Asia Pacific region over the past three years. The firm previously set up shop in Melbourne, Sydney, and Tokyo.

Slalom isn’t wasting any time with its New Zealand business expansion plans. The company plans to recruit 50 employees to its local office over the next year, a rapid pace of hiring that suggests Slalom expects to see considerable demand from clients.
