KPMG launches new sustainability consulting service

Big Four consultancy KPMG is rolling out a consulting service meant to assist companies with the task of deploying Microsoft’s sustainability software.

The focus is on one software product in particular: Microsoft Sustainability Manager. It enables companies to create visual dashboards that track their carbon footprint and renewable energy initiatives.

Records on a company’s environmental footprint, like how much water its factories use, are usually stored in not one system but several. Getting a clear picture of water usage requires individually pulling data out of those systems into a central dashboard.

Microsoft Sustainability Manager includes programs called connectors that can rapidly pull water usage data from a firm’s systems. They also retrieve other sustainability information like carbon emissions metrics.

Once all the needed data is retrieved, Microsoft Sustainability Manager organizes it and then generates a series of dashboards.

Some of those dashboards are built to track a company’s carbon emissions. Meanwhile, another collection of visualizations measures how much sustainable energy the company uses and where.

KPMG’s new consulting offering for Microsoft Sustainability Manager is called KPMG Circularity Tracker. It includes multiple services focused on making Microsoft’s software more accessible for companies.

The first service will offer corporate clients assistance with ensuring their Microsoft Sustainability Manager installations are configured and used correctly. In particular, KPMG will help companies ensure that they process emissions data accurately and in accordance with the relevant technical standards.

KPMG Circularity Tracker also includes an advisory component. In particular, the Big Four firm will provide pointers on how clients can reduce their business operations’ environmental footprint.

It looks like KPMG has big plans for Circularity Tracker. The consultancy has stated that the service will be offered by several of its member firms, which means it will be marketed to clients in multiple regions.

KPMG is not a single company but rather a collection of largely separate consultancies spread out across more than 140 countries worldwide. Those firms collectively employ more than 265,000 people and generated about $35 billion in combined revenue last year.
