Grant Thornton names Andrea Schulz to the helm of its technology practice

Accounting giant Grant Thornton has appointed Andrea Schulz to lead its technology practice.

Schulz has worked in the accounting field for nearly two decades and became a partner at Grant Thornton three years ago. She’s taking over the top spot at the firm’s technology practice from former unit head Steven Perkins, who recently retired.

Grant Thornton’s technology practice advises startups and larger companies in the tech space on financial matters. One of its specialties is preparing tech startups for initial public offerings, the transactions through which they sell their shares on a stock exchange.

IPOs are highly complicated. There are investors to manage and numerous regulations to navigate, not to mention the fact there are usually at least five involved in the transaction.

As the head of Grant Thornton’s technology practice, Andrea Schulz will also oversee the transaction services the firm provides to startups. Grant Thornton is often hired to manage the financial details of corporate acquisitions, such as when a tech giant buys an emerging startup to obtain a capability it doesn’t have in-house.

Grant Thornton announced Schulz’s promotion alongside several other appointments. Notably, it has hired Russell Norris to lead its transaction practice, which offers a similar mix of services as Schulz’s business unit but to firms in the transaction sector rather than to tech companies.
