Capgemini Invent grows its reach with new market expansion

Capgemini’s Capgemini Invent division, which helps companies design high-tech products such as agricultural robots, is expanding into Denmark to accelerate its revenue growth.

Paris-based Capgemini is one of the largest IT consulting firms in the European Union. It works with clients to build custom software, implement cybersecurity systems and carry out other IT projects.

Capgemini reported annual revenues of more than €18 billion at the end of its most recent fiscal year.

Capgemini Invent, the Capgemini division launching in Denmark, employs more than 10,000 people. It’s an agglomeration of consultancies that became part of Capgemini through a series of corporate acquisitions carried out over the past decade.

The most important of those acquisitions was Capgemini’s €3.6 billion purchase of Altran, a fellow consultancy likewise headquartered in Paris. The deal closed in early 2020.

For clients in Denmark, Capgemini Invent will offer product development and design services. That means the division can, for instance, work with an auto parts supplier to develop a new in-car infotainment system or streamline the design of an existing product.

Capgemini Invent’s services in Denmark will be primarily provided by two business units. The business units, which use the brand names Cambridge Consultants and frog, respectively, both became part of Capgemini through its €3.6 billion purchase of Altran in 2019.

Cambridge Consultant is a U.K.-headquartered research and development organization. It helps customers design agricultural robots, vehicle management software and a variety of other high-tech products.

The other major contributor to Capgemini Invent’s service portfolio in Denmark is frog. San Francisco-based frog is a storied creative agency that contributed to the design of Apple’s early Macs and has worked on numerous other high-profile projects over its four decade history.

That broad mix of consulting capabilities means Capgemini Invent is launching in Denmark with the ability to take on a variety of projects for clients. According to the firm, it plans to work with companies in major industries such as retail and telecommunications.

“With our deep industry knowledge, inventive mindset, and global expertise, Capgemini is now positioned to deliver stronger impact for our clients in Denmark and accelerate their sustainable digital transformation journeys,” stated Ann Hellenius, the Managing Director for Capgemini Invent in Sweden, Finland and Denmark.

Capgemini Invent is expanding rapidly. The business unit launched in 2018 with about 6,000 employees and has since grown its headcount to more than 10,000 staff.

Capgemini Invent’s launch in Denmark comes only a few weeks after it established a presence in Italy. Given the rapid pace at which the division has been growing so far, it’s likely that more market expansions will follow.

Capgemini doesn’t break out revenue numbers for Capgemini Invent. But the rapid pace at which the division has been expanding its headcount and geographic presence suggests that it’s either already experiencing significant revenue growth or expecting to in the medium to long term.
