Accenture picks up Oslo-based SAP consultancy Einr

Accenture has bought Einr, a Norwegian consultancy that specializes in helping companies modernize their supply chains using SAP software.

Einr says that its main area of expertise is high volume logistics. The firm’s definition of this term mainly covers the shipping of consumer products such as householder electronics that are sold in large quantities.

A household appliance goes through many pitstops before it reaches a consumer’s home. After it rolls off the production line, the system is shipped to a wholesaler and then to a retailer’s warehouse, from which it’s eventually sent to the store where it will be bought.

Einr can advise the various stakeholders involved in the product shipping workflow on how to make the process more efficient. In particular, the firm’s expertise is making supply chains work better using SAP software.

SAP is one of the world’s largest software companies when measured by revenue. Its vast product portfolio includes, among many other products, a suite of applications for managing corporate supply chains.

SAP’s software can be used to plan merchandise delivery routes and track how efficiently a company’s delivery truck fleet is operating. The software also speeds up the numerous, highly time-consuming administrative tasks involved in running a large supply chain.

“With the acquisition of Einr, we will strengthen our SAP supply chain and logistics capabilities, which help our clients move to more responsive, resilient and sustainable supply chains,” commented Accenture executive Emma McGuigan.

Einr’s 42 employees will join Accenture to bolster its SAP consulting practice, which is one of the largest in the world.

Of the 738,000 people that Accenture employs worldwide, about 70,000 focus on assisting clients with SAP projects. The firm takes on many different types of projects for clients.

Some of SAP’s products were first released decades ago. Companies call in Accenture when they need a hand with moving from a legacy version of a SAP application to one of the newer cloud-based versions.

Accenture can also lend a hand with other tasks, such as training new employees in how to use SAP software. Additionally, the firm can customize that software when needed, for example by changing the default interface to better suite the workflow of a company’s employees.

Einr is being folded into an Accenture business unit called the SAP Business Group in the Nordics. Accenture didn’t disclose how much it’s paying to buy the consultancy.
