Jason Girzadas to take over as CEO of Deloitte US

Jason Girzadas is the next chief executive of Deloitte US, the U.S. affiliate of the world’s largest professional services firm by revenue.

Girzadas is stepping into a role previously held by Joe Ucuzoglu, who has recently moved up the ladder to the role of global CEO.  Ucuzoglu now oversees now only the consulting giant’s U.S. affiliate but also all its other worldwide businesses, which collectively employ about 415,000 professionals.

Girzadas has been with Deloitte US for close to three decades. He made principal in 1994 and continued rising through the ranks until becoming the firm’s managing principal of businesses, global, and strategic services in 2019.

That’s a long job title for a position best described as the Deloitte US equivalent of a COO.  Girzadas oversaw all of the consulting giant’s core businesses, including its assurance and consulting practices, and also directly advised multiple large clients.

Last but not least, Girzadas was the executive sponsor of Deloitte’s partnership with Salesforce.

Given that Girzadas was effectively already overseeing many parts of Deloitte US’ business, his appointment to the CEO role likely didn’t come as a big surprise to many insiders.

It also wouldn’t be surprising if, a few years from now, Girzadas would be promoted to global CEO of Deloitte. The executive is, after all, stepping into the role that was held by current global CEO Ucuzoglu immediately before his appointment to the top post.

Deloitte is also reshuffling its board of directors as part of the leadership update. Lara Abrash, the top executive at Deloitte US’ audit and assurance practice, has been named the new board chair.

Both Girzadas and Abrash will start their first day in their new roles on June 4.

Global CEO Joe Ucuzoglu welcomed the promotions. “I am thrilled by their selection, and I am confident that our clients, people, communities and capital markets will benefit from their joint leadership over the next four years,” the executive remarked in a prepared statement.
