Anna Marks is Deloitte’s new global chair

Deloitte, the world’s top professional services firm by revenue and the largest member of the Big Four, has a new global chair.

Anna Marks is taking up the global chair role after a highly successful two-decade career at Deloitte. She has held numerous leadership positions at the consultancy during her tenure.

“As Global Chair, my vision is to lead a high-performing, purpose-led board, building on the exceptional work of the past four years to govern in a collaborative, anticipatory, and impactful way and driving even greater cohesiveness throughout our global organization,” Marks commented in prepared remarks. “I am thrilled and deeply honored to be taking up this role and look forward to working with the Global Board and Global Executive, embodying Deloitte’s purpose and values in all that we do.”

Marks is currently the vice chair of Deloitte’s U.K. affiliate, which generated £4.9 billion in fee income last year. That accounted for about one tenth the total revenue Deloitte brought in during 2022.

One of Deloitte’s primary focus areas is helping publicly traded companies ensure that the financial results they post every quarter are accurate. Financial reporting is one of Marks’ main focus areas along with due diligence, another Deloitte specialty that consists of going through a company’s books to ensure everything is in order.

Deloitte is not a company in the traditional sense but rather a network of largely independently firms that operate under the same brand name and share certain resources. Deloitte’s top competitors, namely the three other members of the accounting industry’s Big Four club, operate under a similar business model.

Marks brings deep insight into Deloitte’s interfirm dynamics to the global chair role. During her career, she oversaw the series of mergers between Deloitte member firms that led to the formation of the affiliate now known as Deloitte North & South Europe.

Marks is succeeding current global chair Sharon Thorne, whose four-year tenure runs through May 31. Marks will officially step the her new role at the start of January.

“It has been a pleasure serving with Anna on the Global Board in recent years, where I’ve had the opportunity to see first-hand the unique skills and leadership capabilities she will bring to this role, including her substantial governance experience, client impact, future-focused mindset, and global network of trusted relationships,” outgoing global chair Sharon Thorne remarked. “Complementing her experience is her deep sense of integrity and purpose and a highly collaborative leadership style
